Planning a family-friendly trip to Los Angeles can be a great adventure as the city has so many great places to visit. Riding the attractions at Disneyland is a lot of fun. Start a lifelong love of learning by taking your children to visit the Kidspace Children’s Museum, or go wild with your crew at the Los Angeles Zoo. Despite the fact that there is plenty to do in Los Angeles, you still need to make sure that your children stay safe.
Car Safety
Staying safe in Los Angeles often starts with thinking about keeping them safe in the car. Whether you plan on driving to LA in your own car or you will rent one once you arrive, make sure that your child is in a booster seat designed for their size. It’s important to make sure your children are properly taken care of. If you’re hesitant on transporting bulky booster seats for your older children, then talk to your rental agency ahead of time as many have car seats for rent. For older children, it’s important to know that there are safe alternatives such as adjustable seat belts to help keep your children safe as you drive.
Use Cell Phones
It is helpful to give older children a cellphone and teach them to call you if they have a problem and get separated from you. Set their ICE (In Case of Emergency) number to be your or your spouse’s phone number. Which is always able to be accessed from the lock screen. You can also set the cover of the cell phone to display a number clearly labeled “in case of emergency” that can be called without even needing to unlock the phone. If your child’s phone does not have this option, then simply take a photo of the number and use that as the home screen on the phone. That way, if your child gets lost, all they have to do is give a responsible adult the phone and have them call the number.
Talk About Stranger Danger
Teach your children to not talk to strangers without your permission. When you arrive at a destination, talk to your children about what employees at that location are wearing such as name tags. Teach them to ask those employees to get help for them. Agree on a family meeting spot if anyone gets separated from the rest of the family.
While you definitely do not want to discourage your children from having a great time while traveling, teach them to be cautious. Use these tips to teach your children to be safe when traveling to Los Angeles.
